How many treatments are needed?

This depends on the nature and the severity of the problem.

Symptoms can often be relieved in a matter of hours, but correcting the underlying cause of an illness and thus producing lasting relief can be a longer process.

With chronic problems 6 to 12 sessions are often recommended.

Is acupuncture painful?

An acupuncture needle is very thin, 8-10 times thinner than a hypodermic needle, and is usually inserted painlessly. When treated by a skilled TCM practitioner, patients generally feel relaxed during the procedure, often falling asleep.

Are there any side effects?

One of the great advantages of acupuncture and herbs is the absence of serious side effects.

When the appropriate herbs are prescribed, they are very safe, even if taken with prescription pharmaceuticals. Chinese Herbs and Acupuncture can even be used to help with side effects of Western prescription drugs.

Are needles sanitary?

The needles that are used in acupuncture are sterile and disposable, which exclude the risk of infection or transmission of disease.

How much does it cost?

Acupuncture is not covered by OHIP.

Acupuncture is covered by major extended health insurance plans, if the practitioner is a Registered Acupuncturist.

Cost per session starts at $60 and varies, depending on length of the session.
